  1. What documents do I need to apply for a Japan student visa?
Generally, you will need a passport, application form, biometric photo, letter of acceptance, COE (Certificate of Eligibility), sponsor information, financial documents, and academic records. We recommend confirming the exact list of required documents with the school or the consulate, as requirements may vary.
  2. Who issues the COE (Certificate of Eligibility), and why is it necessary?
The COE is issued by the Immigration Bureau in Japan. It increases the likelihood of your visa application being approved, as it proves that you have been accepted by an institution and have sufficient financial resources.
  3. Are the COE and visa application submitted at the same time?
No, the COE must be obtained first. Once approved, you can apply for a student visa using the original COE document.
  4. Do I need to know Japanese to apply for a student visa?
No, Japanese language ability is not mandatory for the visa application itself. However, if the applicant is a high school graduate, most institutions expect at least JLPT N5-level proficiency, which is a basic level. If the applicant holds a 4-year university degree or higher, this requirement is usually waived. Some schools may also conduct placement tests or interviews, so having a basic level of Japanese is often an advantage.
  5. How long does it take for my student visa to be approved?
The COE application process typically takes 1–3 months. After receiving the COE, the visa application itself usually takes about 1–2 weeks. However, processing times may vary depending on the time of year and workload of the immigration office.
  6. Can I work in Japan with a student visa?
Yes. Student visa holders are allowed to work up to 28 hours per week. During school holidays, full-time work is permitted. However, you must apply for and obtain special permission to engage in part-time work, using documents that prove your student status.
  7. How do I prove my financial eligibility for studying in Japan?
You may provide bank statements, a sponsor letter, scholarship documents, or proof of other financial resources. If you have sponsors, their income statements and occupation details should also be included in the application.
  8. What happens if my visa application is rejected?
A rejection may result from incomplete or incorrect documentation, insufficient financial resources, or failure to meet other requirements. If your application is denied, our consultants will help you review the issues and reapply with corrections.
  9. How long is a Japan student visa valid, and how can I extend it?The visa duration depends on your study program, usually 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years. If your studies continue beyond that period, you can apply for an extension at the Immigration Bureau in Japan. You will need updated enrollment documents and proof of financial support.
  10. Why is it important to get consultancy services during the application process? The visa process can be complex and stressful. Ensuring that all documents are accurate and complete significantly increases your chances of approval. Our consultants provide guidance and support at every stage of the process to help secure a successful outcome.
