Edusama Student Eda Çakan’s Manga Wins an Award in Japan

At Edusama, it brings us great joy to see the achievements our students go on to make in many different fields after their educational journeys in Japan. This time, the good news comes from our student Eda Çakan, who enrolled at TLS for the April 2024 term and completed her studies there.

Eda Çakan, who is continuing her studies and life in Japan, has been honored with the Special Jury Prize (特別審査員賞) in the “LINE Manga webtoon大賞 2025” for her manga work.

The final results of the contest, organized by LINE Manga, were announced on June 30, 2026. Eda Çakan’s work was among those selected for the Special Jury Prize by T.Jun, one of the contest’s jury members.

“The Dragon and the Blind Girl”

The Japanese title of Eda Çakan’s award-winning work is 「竜と盲目少女」 (Ryū to Mōmoku Shōjo), which translates as “The Dragon and the Blind Girl.”

Published in the fantasy and science fiction category, the work tells the story of a young girl named Kiara, who was kidnapped as a child by a mysterious group and had her eyes sealed. After a mistake she makes, Kiara is exiled to a deserted island, and her long loneliness changes when she encounters Tao, a wounded golden dragon. This encounter marks the beginning of a new journey that binds the fates of the two characters together.

Praise from Jury Member T.Jun

  • Eda Çakan’s work was awarded the Special Jury Prize by T.Jun, one of the contest’s jury members.
  • In his evaluation of the work, T.Jun particularly highlighted the care taken in the artwork, its powerful expressiveness, the character designs and the original art style.

The jury’s evaluation read as follows:

“The beautiful, carefully crafted artwork and rich expressive power were truly impressive. I believe the appealing character designs and original art style give the work a strong presence all its own.

There are also many intriguing elements in the way the characters are constructed and in the design of the world that has been created. Throughout the work as a whole, I sensed a charm that is uniquely its own.

I’m curious to see how the story will develop from here. It is a work that made me look forward to seeing the story and its world expand even further as it goes on.”

This evaluation shows that 「竜と盲目少女」 left a strong impression on the jury not only with the quality of its artwork, but also with its characters and the original world it creates.

A 1 Million Yen Cash Prize and Publication Rights

The Special Jury Prize that Eda Çakan won also brings with it significant opportunities.

Along with a cash prize of 1,000,000 yen, the award includes the right to have the work published on LINE Manga as a one-shot. Works that win the Special Jury Prize also get the chance to be featured in LINE Manga’s recommended content section.

A total of 12 works received awards across different categories in the contest, and 「竜と盲目少女」 was one of the four works to receive the Special Jury Prize.
