About the School
Yoshida Institute of Japanese Language is a well-established language school that has been teaching Japanese to international students in Tokyo’s Nishiwaseda area since 1986. Located near Waseda University, the school is right next to Waseda stop on the Tokyo Sakura Tram, about a 12-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Waseda Station and about an 18-minute walk from JR Takadanobaba Station. Thanks to its central location, students can enjoy the student atmosphere of Waseda and Takadanobaba while easily reaching other parts of Tokyo.
The school offers intensive Japanese courses at a range of levels, from students starting Japanese from scratch to advanced learners. Lessons develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills together; beginner levels focus on basic grammar and kanji, while intermediate and advanced levels work on more complex texts, natural communication and academic Japanese. Classes usually consist of 10 to 18 students, and lessons are taught in Japanese using the direct method.
Yoshida Institute offers JLPT and EJU preparation, particularly for students aiming for university, vocational school or further education in Japan. Intermediate and advanced students can do additional study for their target exams and receive guidance from school staff on educational institutions and application procedures in Japan. In addition, the school’s general Japanese programs are open not only to students with academic goals but also to those who want to use Japanese in their working lives or get to know Japanese culture more closely.
The school’s student body is highly international. Although Japanese lessons are conducted entirely in Japanese, the school office can provide support in English when needed. Students can also receive information and guidance on matters related to daily life in Japan, such as accommodation options, opening a bank account, mobile phone procedures, insurance and part-time work in line with legal requirements. There are also separate application options for students staying in Japan on a Working Holiday visa and for students who want to study short-term.
Yoshida Institute is a suitable option for students who want to study in central Tokyo, who prefer a more compact and international school environment to very large chain schools, and who want to develop their Japanese from beginner to advanced level or prepare for exams such as the JLPT and EJU. Its closeness to the student life around Waseda and Takadanobaba is also a significant advantage, especially for students who want to combine their studies with the experience of living in Tokyo.
