Yokohama YMCA College is one of the long-established institutions offering Japanese language education within Yokohama YMCA, which has carried out educational activities for many years. The school aims not only to help students develop their Japanese language skills but also to build the communication skills they need to adapt to academic life, working life and daily life in Japan. The history of Yokohama YMCA goes back more than 135 years.

The school offers Japanese language education at a range of levels, from beginner to advanced. The programs place importance on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a balanced way. The curriculum is structured to suit students who plan to continue on to university, graduate school or vocational school in Japan, as well as students who wish to use Japanese in their future careers.

One of the distinctive features of Yokohama YMCA College is that it offers a variety of opportunities for interaction where students can actively use Japanese outside the classroom as well. Students have the chance to communicate with Japanese YMCA members, Japanese students, volunteers and international students from different countries. Conversation practice with Japanese volunteers also helps students improve their everyday communication skills.

The school also provides support for students' study and life in Japan. Guidance is offered to students who wish to continue their education in line with their academic goals, and emphasis is also placed on developing the language and communication skills that students planning to work in Japan may need. In this way, Japanese language education is not limited to classroom lessons but continues in a more comprehensive form geared toward students' next steps in Japan.
