About the School
Tokyo Shinjuku Japanese Language School (TSJ) is a language school offering Japanese language education to international students in Shinjuku, one of Tokyo’s central districts. The curriculum aims to help students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in a balanced way and to use Japanese actively not only in the classroom but also in their studies and daily lives in Japan. Students are placed in classes according to their Japanese level and follow a course of study suited to their level.
In addition to core Japanese instruction, preparation classes tailored to level and goals are offered for students who wish to prepare for the JLPT and EJU exams. Rather than being applied uniformly to all students, these classes are conducted in groups formed according to the levels of students with exam goals. This allows students to continue their general Japanese studies while also focusing on the areas they need for university applications or Japanese proficiency exams.
At TSJ, students’ plans after their Japanese studies are also supported. According to up-to-date information from the school, approximately 85% of students go on to further education institutions such as universities or senmongakko after completing their studies. A significant portion of the remaining students aim to start working in Japan. Students who choose senmongakko tend to pursue a variety of specialized fields such as information technology, pastry making, and automotive engineering and vehicle maintenance. Students can receive guidance on educational options and next steps in line with their own goals.
In addition to Japanese language education, the school places importance on helping students adapt to daily life and social norms in Japan. Offering an international environment with students from various countries, TSJ is about a 3-minute walk from Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. Thanks to Shinjuku’s central location, students can easily reach different parts of Tokyo and have access to education, social life and, provided they meet the relevant conditions, part-time work opportunities.
