About the School
ICA International Conversation Academy - Machida Campus is a language school located in the Machida area of Tokyo that offers Japanese language education to international students, especially those planning to continue on to higher education institutions in Japan such as universities or vocational schools (senmongakkou). The school aims not only to help students improve their Japanese, but also to enable them to set their own educational goals and communicate effectively in daily life in Japan.
Practical Japanese and communication skills play an important role in Machida Campus's educational approach. While students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in class, interactive activities are included so that they can express their own ideas in Japanese and communicate with people from different cultures. The goal is to bring students' Japanese to a level they can use not only in exams but also in their future school life and daily life.
Depending on the length of study, the school offers higher education preparation programs of 2 years, 1 year 9 months, 1 year 6 months, 1 year 3 months and 1 year. Students aiming for university or senmongakkou receive individual guidance on choosing schools and departments, preparing applications, writing statements of purpose and practicing for interviews. Preparation for the EJU exam is also provided for students planning to apply to universities.
Teachers and school staff closely follow not only students' academic progress but also their daily lives in Japan. The campus has an educational approach that supports students in setting their own goals and acting more independently to achieve them.
Machida Campus also values learning experiences outside the classroom. Throughout the year, higher education information events, Japanese cultural experiences, a trip to Mount Fuji, off-campus learning programs and seasonal events are organized. These activities allow students to use the Japanese they learn in class in real-life settings and to get to know Japanese culture and society more closely.
Student dormitory options are available in areas near the school. Shared and private room options may be offered; accommodations equipped with basic furniture and living essentials make it easier for students coming to Japan for the first time to start their daily lives. Current room types and availability should be checked during the application period.
Machida is an area on the western side of Tokyo with a calmer living environment compared to the bustle of major city centers. Even so, it has an extensive urban infrastructure with shopping centers, restaurants, parks and everything students need for their daily lives. Easy access to central Tokyo as well as Yokohama and the Kanagawa area allows students to take advantage of the educational and social opportunities of both Tokyo and the surrounding cities.
