About the School

Alice Japanese Language School Yokohama Campus is a language school that opened in 2019 in the Naka ward of Yokohama and provides long-term Japanese language education to international students. The school operates within the Alice International Gakuen education group and in 2021 was recognized by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan as one of the educational institutions that accept students appropriately. The nearest station to the campus is JR Negishi Station, and the school is about a 7-minute walk from the station. Yokohama Station can be reached in about 13 minutes by train, and central Tokyo in about 50 minutes.

The school is especially suitable for students who plan to continue on to a university, vocational school or another higher education institution in Japan. It offers a 2-year further education preparation program starting in April and a 1.5-year program starting in October. Students who begin learning Japanese from the beginner level can be accepted; however, student visa applications require Japanese proficiency equivalent to at least JLPT N5 or at least 150 hours of Japanese study.

Classes develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills together, while also emphasizing the practical Japanese students will need in daily life in Japan. Students’ levels are monitored through regular exams, and exam preparation and individual guidance are provided according to their goals. Students planning further education can receive support from teachers with matters such as choosing a school, preparing application forms and practicing for interviews.

Within Alice Yokohama’s multinational student body, students are encouraged to use Japanese as their common language of communication. In addition to classes, school staff support students with matters related to accommodation, part-time work, daily life and emergencies. Digital tools such as tablets and computers are used in class, and content about Japanese culture and daily life is also included.

This campus is a suitable option for students who prefer to live in Yokohama while keeping access to Tokyo, and who want to develop their Japanese over the long term and then continue on to higher education in Japan. It is especially worth considering for students who need the school’s support not only with language learning but also with daily life in Japan and their plans for further study.
